Pastor: Rev. Bernard N. Howard
People
Bernard is a Jewish believer in Jesus. Originally from London, he began following Jesus as the promised Messiah two years after his bar mitzvah (he tells the story here). Bernard is an ordained Anglican who has worked in Christian ministry for many years, including three years as an assistant pastor at Christ Church NYC, and six years as the pastor of Good Shepherd Anglican Church in Manhattan. He has written numerous articles for The Gospel Coalition.
Bernard is married to Betsy, who is an editor for The Gospel Coalition and the author of several books, including Seasons of Waiting and Arlo and the Great Big Cover-Up. They have two young sons: Solly and Abel.
Music Director: Ken Berg
Ken is known to many music-lovers in Birmingham as the director of the Birmingham Boys Choir, which he has led since 1978. For many years he was the Director of Choirs and Fine Arts Chairman at John Carroll Catholic High School, and he has also served as the Music Minister at Mountain Brook Baptist Church. Ken is married to Susan, and they have two grown sons.
Children’s Director: Edie Smith
Edie is a graduate student at Samford University, where she runs cross country and track while pursuing a degree in Secondary Education for English Language Arts. She has many years of experience supervising children and teenagers from her time camp counseling in Montreat, NC, teaching swim lessons to children of all ages, and substitute teaching in elementary, middle, and high schools. Edie is engaged to John Kelly Hawkins and they plan to marry in May of 2025.
